Wolf Tucker🐺is a family business that started their path of creating raw food for dogs in response to the lack of transparency and shady practices of the commercial pet food industry. After having their dogs suffering skin problems and allergies that dry food (kibble) often causes, Wolf Tucker was born not long after. We at Heathside think that the best product comes from a personal need to fix a problem (this website created in response to no proper Min Pin-specific information on the net) and Wolf Tucker have gotten this spot on. The company says they offer top quality raw dog food created according to BARF (biologically appropriate raw food) principles which is affordable, made in small batches to standards of high quality and consistency and using only human grade meat and seasonal vegetables. All Wolf Tucker’s packaging is fully recyclable too from their food trays to their boxes.
Wolf Tucker’s raw food comes nicely packaged with plenty (really, plenty!) of packing chips which are also biodegradable (the packaging they come in too!) and wool liners to keep everything cold for longer.
Simple, Delicious Recipes
All Wolf Tucker’s ranges are suitable for both adult dogs and puppies and come in two varieties; Complete Raw Meals and Naked Meals. Some recipes from the Naked Meals range are made only with meat and bone but Wolf Tucker do not specify whether they include offal (organs) in these recipes. However they are labelled as a complementary food which means that you don’t feed them alone but you can use them to create complete BARF meals. Some of their Complete Raw Meals are made with 90% meat, offal, bone and 10% vegetables and fruit as well as flax seed oil and seagreen kelp. However the meals labelled chicken, chicken and tripe and turkey are not listed as containing offal.
Our Experience With Wolf Tucker
We bought some chicken meal recipes from the Complete Meal variety. The meat is pretty finely minced compared to other raw food companies we’ve tried. If your Min Pin is older with missing teeth this is an ideal food. You can see chunks of carrot in the food but not the other fruits and vegetables they list in the ingredients. We went with chicken meal because it’s an ‘old reliable’ in terms of protein; most dogs tend to like it, it’s not a novel protein so we know Mikki will like it and it’s easy on a dog’s stomach and digestive system. It is an overused protein so take care if your Min Pin has possible food allergies. Perfectly Rawsome has an excellent page on elimination diets.
Wolf Tucker’s Pricing And Delivery
As with many raw dog food companies, the ordering and delivery process and fees are fairly similar. Their Complete Meals food is sold in 500g trays only which is great for us as these trays are easily stackable in the freezer, more so than 1kg trays. The chicken meals cost £1.80 and go up to £3.00 for their more expensive recipe in their Naked Meals varieties. For their delivery charges it’s £6.50 from 5kg, which is their minimum delivery weight requirement. For a 5kg Min Pin (the weight we use to work out dog food costs on our feeding page) with average body type and activity levels, Wolf Tucker recommend 100g which is 2% of the dog’s body weight in food and the very least amount you can feed a Min Pin. But as we recommend that a Min Pin of that weight be fed at least 110g this will translate as approximately £11.80 per month. Again remember that the amount of food needed per day is highly variable based on your Min Pin’s activity levels, whether he or she is neutered/spayed and ideal weight.
Our Thoughts And Sticking Points
Mikki loved his Wolf Tucker meals. The food is really good value for money and we would 100% buy again if they had more of a variety of recipes in their complete range. We found this premade raw food company to have the least amount of recipes than any other company. There are some more proteins available but only in their complementary Naked Meals which require that you mix the different food trays by yourself. This isn’t necessarily an issue for us, however, the attraction of premade raw is that you get everything your dog needs already prepared in one tray. Therefore we prefer complete recipes that are ready to serve. Another thing is that only 3 out of 6 recipes from their Complete Meals contain offal whereas other premade raw brands we’ve tried labelled as ‘complete’ do. In order for a raw dog food meal to be complete it must correctly adhere to either BARF or prey model/80:10:10, which gives your dog everything they need. Incomplete food isn’t balanced and will quickly lead to nutritional deficiencies in your dog and overtime, can cause health problems. It is true that poor quality commercial dog foods despite being terrible for dogs are actually balanced for the most part. We could be wrong though and Wolf Tucker have indeed included offal in all their meals but they have not listed offal in the ingredients for some of their recipes. This may or may not be an issue for the reader if their happy to mix and match recipes! Other than that Wolf Tucker is quality contender for a premade raw dog food🍖.
