Social Media Accounts🐾

For many years now YouTube has really helped Gemma with learning about how to become a better dog owner. We all know that it can be a wonderful source of great content and in Gemma’s case she’s received support with canine training and health. Below we have included a small selection of YouTubers for the visitor to check out. These wonderful trainers and owners offer some amazing educational videos on general dog ownership as well as pet product reviews and fun videos with their pooches. Some of them have differing opinions and degrees of expertise (some from years of experience) but we always say, take what’s doable for you as a Miniature Pinscher owner and do not feel pressured to do things a certain way if they are not right for you. The Facebook groups we’ve included below will help you to educate yourself on proper dog nutrition, how to feed your dog real food he needs to thrive and canine fitness.

Dog Products🐾

We have included here some of the products we have used for our dogs at Heathside, such as the ones we have mentioned around the website and therefore ones we can recommend. We also list all the essentials you need for your Min Pin puppy as described on Caring For And Raising Your New Miniature Pinscher Puppy. We believe that keeping things as natural as possible is the best for your dogs which includes using healthcare products that are as natural as possible, with the least amount of synthetic chemicals. As such every owner knows the pet products industry is so vast it can be a minefield. Trying out many versions of the same product and spending a load of money is common, which is why we want to help our visitors out as much as we can! You can purchase these items either straight from the links below or just use them as a guide for what you need. We have split them into categories for your easy perusal.

Toys🐾

All the toys listed are suitable for strong/aggressive chewers and are safe to leave your Min Pin alone with. We do not recommend that you ever leave your Min Pin alone with any soft toys (stuffed animals, soft rubber toys) even if they are marketed for tough chewers like the ones below. Bare in mind that even hard rubber or plastic toys specifically made to be tough can still be destroyed quickly. For the toys below we state the recommend sizes for Min Pins. Unless they are hard and tough, we don’t recommend that a toy is small enough to fit in your Min Pin’s mouth whole. The toys below are suitable for puppies as well.

Kong Stuffer Dog Toy Extreme (black) In Medium Size (minimum)

Dog IQ Treat Ball

Nerfdog Teether Ball Toy (small)

Rogz Grinz Ball Toy (medium)

JW HOL-EE ROLLER ball (any size)

Breeding Essentials🐾

A basic list of supplies for new breeders. Regarding weaning food, it should always be specifically formulated for weaning puppies. We recommend a wet food rather than a dry as it’s easier to serve without having to add water to it. Don’t forget that if your dogs are raw fed you can wean your puppies straight onto raw-there is no need to wait! See some of the brands listed below for more about where to purchase.

The services we’ve listed below are mostly either in London or in reasonable proximity to London. Some of us at Heathside have used some of these services and can recommend them. All the pet sitters and dog walkers below are verified and insured.

Veterinary Services🐾

Below is a list of vets who specialise in reproductive services e.g. pregnant dam health checks and stud dog fertility testing. We’ve also tried our best to find vets who perform alternative procedures regarding neutering and spaying, including ovary-sparing spays (OSS) and vasectomies-see Neuter Or Not To Neuter.

Dog Shows, Events And Activities🐾

As a Min Pin (or any dog) lover, there are some really fun places you should definitely have on your list to visit. Whether you are interested in visiting dogs shows to learn more about them with the intention of showing or just as a fun day out, we have amongst the most well-known and popular events listed below. Some of these we at Heathside even visited ourselves and are held in different parts of the country. As an active pet owner who wants to get their pooch into doggy sports, you may decide you want to add to your Min Pin’s life (and yours!) and try out some of the exciting activities out there for dogs and their owners to enjoy. As mentioned in Play, Activities And Sports With The Miniature Pinscher, this breed tends to excel at agility (and enjoy it) and for those living around London we have sourced out some sites that can help you get started.

Kennel Club Events🐾

Dog Shows

Miniature Pinscher Club Of Great Britain

See this website for Min Pin-specific shows of all levels.

Crufts

Crufts is the largest, most well-known championship dog show in the world. At Crufts visitors can watch breed shows/exhibits, competitive sporting events such as agility and have access to 100s of stools selling all things dog.

Windsor Championship Dog Show

One of the largest most popular championship dog shows in the UK, and the first show that we went to! A fun summer event held outside with food and drink stands and pet shopping opportunities available too.

Discover Dogs

Discover Dogs is partly an educational event that gives visitors a chance to meet many different Kennel Club breeds along with their breeders partly a show event because you’ll get to watch a range of shows, similar to Crufts. Plenty of doggy shopping opportunities as well.

Dog Fest

This is a super fun doggy day out held in different parts of the country. Held outdoors, you can bring your own dogs, watch competitions and get involved in activities too. Plus there are shopping opportunities.

All About Dogs Show

Another super fun event held over a weekend. Much like dog fest where you can bring your own dogs, take part in have-a-go activities and watch competitions.

Our 2017 visit to Dog Fest with Mikki was a lot of fun

Dog Training🐾

If your Min Pin is in need of a dog trainer, finding a good one is very important. By ‘good’ we mean one that is not only qualified but also experienced, because that counts for so much when it comes to training dogs. Then there’s finding a trainer who has dealt with toy and small breeds because although the basic principles of training are the same, they are very different to deal with than large guardian breeds, for example. However the biggest issue your going to face when searching for dog trainers is the behemoth of trainers that will claim to best trainer in the UK (or the world), describing the methods (there are many) they use are the only ones that should be used on dogs. It can be very confusing for the consumer especially if you know little about training dogs. Choosing the wrong or a poor dog trainer can have disastrous consequences as the link below suggests and the most important thing to do is to not rush into a particular choice. We think it’s vital that you do the research and become clued-up which is why we do not have a recommended list of dog trainers. As we mention on our training page the Min Pin is definitely a breed that does not do well with punitive methods used in training and we fully support positive reinforcement training for all breeds of dog. Not all trainers use positive reinforcement methods so keep this in mind when searching for your Min Pin’s perfect trainer. Victoria Stillwell’s site (below) is a great place to learn more about positive reinforcement training.
