Who Is Nutriment?
When looking for a raw dog food for your Min Pin out of the sea of brands offered up in 2021, the most important thing on your mind should be quality. Nutriment is a brand offering premade raw foods who claim that quality is one of their main priorities and they ensure that every step involved in their premade raw product meets stringent standards of quality from their inception in 2013. Based in Hampshire and following the BARF (biologically-appropriate raw food) principle to a T, they offer a wide range of recipes, with a variety proteins. So there really is something for every dog. Nutriment say that they strive to tailor their recipes to the individual needs of dogs. Nutriment has earned many awards and prizes for their hard work.
High Quality Recipes
The great thing about Nutriment is they have a highly beneficial list of ingredients in their recipe ranges that adhere perfectly to the BARF principle such as meat and bone, offal, fresh beneficial vegetables and superfood supplements such as salmon and coconut oils, sea kelp, spirulina and wheat germ oil, to name a few. Nutriment say they mix their proteins in order to help prevent allergies to single proteins. This is reflected in the majority of their recipes which are developed by a qualified team of in-house nutritionists. An example is their ‘chicken formula’ which consists of chicken with bone, beef tripe/liver/kidney. As well as this they ensure their meat, poultry and fish is sustainably sourced and is 100% human grade.
Nutriment’s Ordering Process And Cost
Nutriment offers raw meals for adult, puppy and senior dogs which are labelled as ‘working dog’ for most of their complete recipes in their Core Range. They also do a Support Range which is formulated for dogs with liver, kidney and pancreas problems, a Dinner For Dogs range which is aimed at owners of small/non-working dogs, a Just Range which offers single protein recipes which are complimentary so you can create your own meal plan, an Organic Range and a Meatballs Range. Within these ranges there are Low Fat recipes for dogs needing to lose weight and Recovery recipes for those dogs undergoing medical treatment. Nutriment much like most premade raw companies allow you to select your recipes in 500g tubs to 1.4kg ‘chubbs’. The chubbs are shaped like a large sausage which we decided against buying. This is because of the added work of needing to place the chubb in a suitable container (which we don’t have) and then having to portion it out every meal time.
The 500g tubs on the other hand are far easier to pop in the fridge to defrost and scoop out with a spoon. They also remain defrosted in the fridge a shorter time than the chubbs, ensuring greater freshness. As well as this, we are vegetarians and prefer not to handle raw meat when we don’t need to. Nutriment’s raw meals come in cool black tubs made from recycled plastic with a lid for easy use. Nutriment’s recipes come in at different price points with chicken and turkey formulas from their Core Range being amongst the cheapest recipes priced at around £2.29 to the most expensive rabbit formula priced at around £5.99. Nutriment also offers boxes of all their ranges containing 20x500g tubs or 8×1.4kg chubbs. An example is their chicken formula which is priced at £43.80 and £41.52. For a 5kg Min Pin (the weight we use to work out dog food costs on our feeding page) with average body type and activity levels, Nutriment recommend 100g which is 2% of the dog’s body weight in food and the very least amount you can feed a Min Pin.
We would recommend 110g for a Min Pin since they generally like to move around a lot. We estimate it’s around £8.38 per month to feed a 5kg Min Pin at 110g a day based on the chicken and salmon/turkey formulas. However you must order a minimum of 5kg of raw food in order to buy from Nutriment. This will make the total cost £23.90 for 5kg of a variety of Nutriment’s Core Range recipes of chicken, salmon/turkey and duck formulas. Total order cost will vary of course depending on what recipes you order and quantity. If you are wanting to only feed premade raw we always recommend you order a variety of recipes for your dog. Onto the delivery charges which go by weight. For 5-10kg (£7.95), 11-20kg (£11.95), 21-30kg (£14.95), 31-40kg (£17.95), 41-50kg (£20.95) and 51kg+ (free). Therefore you’ll be paying upwards of £30 for your order of Core Range recipes. That is, if you order from their website.
Nutriment’s Core Range is available on Amazon in boxes of 10x500g tubs. They offer boxes just containing primary protein formulas such as chicken formula and boxes containing mixed formulas which would just be a variety of formulas. Amazon includes the delivery fee in the listed box prices which start from £28.99 for their mixed box.
How Did Mikki Do With His Nutriment Raw Meals?
We chose a wide variety of recipes for Mikki out of Nutriments Core Range. Mikki loved them all. For the most part his poo was very small and firm but he did have some runny poo with some of the formulas. As we added novel proteins such as rabbit and venison to his raw food order so that could have been what’s responsible. As well as this, Nutriment’s recipes are largely a mixture of many different proteins instead of just one or two so it’s hard not to feed a variety with Nutriment. The fresh vegetables Nutriment use in their recipes namely broccoli, butternut squash, carrots and curly kale are visible as you can see from the photos. This really gives you a good idea of just how fresh the food is😊.
The Focus On Quality
Nutriment focus is ensuring that their ingredients are carefully selected so that they are 100% natural and free of anything artificial including additives, chemicals, colours, flavours or bulking agents. At least 85% of their recipes are made up of human grade meat.
Our Thoughts
Nutriment do cater their recipes primarily to the needs of working dogs and it says ‘working adult dog food’ on their packaging. We weren’t sure initially if this meant that their food wouldn’t be suitable for our Min Pin. We can’t seem to find out whether or not they started as a raw food company aimed at working dogs only. And the Dinner For Dogs Range served to confuse us even more as it’s aimed at “smaller, less-active dogs”. However Nutriment say that their “ethos is applicable to all breeds, ages and sizes of dog”. This cleared things up for us. The experience we had with Nutriment was a positive one and we think that their premade raw food provides excellent nutrition for excellent value for money.
